Rhinoplasty Recovery

Dr. Rizk prides himself on having perfected surgical techniques and post-surgery recommendations that deliver optimal results with minimal discomfort. Because of Dr. Rizk’s pioneering high definition 3D camera system, bruising, pain and swelling will be minimized. Generally you can expect to feel socially presentable and confident within one week of surgery. Many people return to work or school in as little as 5 days.

Many technical innovations have been implemented to guarantee minimal discomfort. To decrease potential swelling and bruising, Dr. Rizk avoids incisions on blood rich soft tissue that envelope the nose by making deeper dissections under the muscle layers. His high definition 3D camera system allows him to circumvent the angular artery, which helps eliminate bruising under the eyes. An important innovation in his technique regards drainage. Dr. Rizk does not completely close all incisions inside the nose, which prevents blood and fluid from collecting under the skin. These incisions close naturally within 5 days. And finally, instead of using potentially uncomfortable packing in the nose after surgery, Dr. Rizk employs tissue glue to seal the blood vessels and stop bleeding.

While you can expect very little discomfort, at-home care is key to minimizing bruising, pain and swelling. You will leave Dr. Rizk’s office with a specially developed Rhinoplasty Kit, which includes arnica cream and pills, vitamin K and a Medrol dose pack – all customized to aid in a swift, comfortable recovery. You will be able to go home the same day after your surgery, but make an appointment to see the surgeon 5-7 days later. During the first 2 days following surgery, be sure to ice the nose and face area meticulously. Sleep on your back and keep your head elevated to minimize swelling. Pamper the tender area by taping your glasses to your forehead rather than resting them on your nose. If needed, use an over the counter saline spray, ointment and a humidifier to make breathing easier while you are healing. And when eating, try to avoid high salt foods to aid the healing process.

You will notice an immediate change in your nose following surgery; however, it can take up to 6 months or even a year for all swelling to subside and for healing to be complete.
